The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) is a global professional body focused on logistics, transport, and supply chain management. I was responsible for developing their international website, delivering a robust, high-performance WordPress build that meets modern standards of accessibility, SEO, and user experience.

My role was exclusively focused on development, collaborating closely with designer and UX wiz Sarah Rothwell and the team at Pink Marketing. Over a six-week period I built a custom WordPress theme identical to Sarah’s designs with an administration area tailored to the institute’s content editors needs.

  • Custom WordPress Theme
    Developed from the ground up, the theme was optimized for clean code, performance, and maintainability.
  • Modular Content Management
    I implemented a flexible, modular content editing system using Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), enabling administrators to easily create new pages and layouts without technical assistance.
  • Specialist Content Areas
    The site includes several custom post types and directories:

    • Branch locator (Google Maps API integration)
    • News area
    • Published articles directory
    • International training course listings
    • Case studies
    • Events section
  • Content Migration
    Imported nearly 200 existing news articles from the previous WordPress site, ensuring they were automatically adapted to the new design and displayed correctly without requiring manual editing.
  • Secure Document Repository
    I built a private internal resource library, accessible only to specific users assigned to relevant company sectors, with tailored access control and permissions, with help from the Download Manager and User Roles plugins.
  • Performance, SEO & Accessibility
    The site is highly optimized for speed, fully accessible to WCAG standards, and structured for SEO best practices out of the box.
  • Responsive Design & Interactive Enhancements
    I ensured the build was fully responsive across all devices. I also integrated subtle animations and a video banner on the homepage to enhance user engagement.

The result is a modern-looking website, along with a flexible CMS solution that empowers the CILT team to manage their global content effectively while providing a seamless experience for users worldwide.
